Why I Went on a Raw Vegan Diet for 2 Weeks

As I am writing this post, I am munching on fresh mandarins while sipping on a berry smoothie. You see, this year I decided to take my nutritional quest further and gradually switch to a plant based lifestyle completely. To have a fresh start, literally, I am starting a two week raw vegan diet.

Why will anyone in their senses go on a raw vegan diet?

That is a question many people will ask, including my friends and myself a few years back. While cutting out animal based food is more of an ethical choice for me, going raw is more about focusing on my health and healing the body naturally. I also have big goals for this year in regards my freediving training as well as other water sports like windsurfing and having a better diet will definitely help me to get fit faster.

The two things that drive me crazy at the moment are not unique at all:

1 Extra weight in a shape of stubborn fat that got a permanent residency on my tummy, thighs and bum.

2 Breakouts and uneven skin that just drive me mad and cause a lot of insecurities.

Cutting out animal products had its benefits

Taking out meat, fish and all dairy products was already very beneficial as my skin became far less oily than usual. However, my weight remained the same.

Losing weight naturally is the way forward

Having pasta and loads of grains kept my weight at the same mark – 70kg. You may think that it is totally a normal number as I am 177 tall and yet I know my body and I should not be more than 65kg. I also feel these extra kilos have slowed me down, I could really feel that freediving became a bit more difficult as I had extra weight to carry with me. Even while running, I could feel higher pressure on my knees so I stuck to walking for now. In general, I just feel I am much slower than I used to be and my energy levels are not as high as before.

Struggling to maintain healthy skin

When it comes to skin issues, the best word to describe the struggle is really Despair. Despite the most careful beauty routine and natural projects, visits to dermatologists, gastroenterologists and even gynecologists, my skin is still very much out of control causing a lot of psychological discomfort. Everyone who knows me thinks of me as a strong woman and they can’t even imagine the distress I am in, masked by a smile and a heavy layer of foundation.

These reasons are strong enough to motivate me to stay away from any food that is processed in any way-frozen or cooked and focus solely on fresh fruits, vegetables and nuts.

Raw Vegan Detox Goals

Ideally, I would like to lose 2 kg and have a better skin complexion. I want to feel lighter and energized.

Raw Vegan Detox Plan

  • Start the day with a glass of warm water with lemon juice
  • EAT loads of fresh fruit
  • Fresh smoothies and juices for breakfast
  • Add extra virgin olive oil in salads and juice to avoid spikes in blood sugar
  • Experiment and and try new recipes
  • Macadamia nuts and avocados daily for healthy fats
  • Drink loads of water throughout the day

I am happy to share my thoughts and I will be updating my daily food adventures on my Instagram so follow @slavanoor, will share my results in two weeks πŸ˜‰
