Deira is known for its vibrance both among locals and tourists and I am always up for exploring the beauty of the old Dubai through my lens. This is why I was super excited to participate in the Shot Hunt organized by Pullman DCC. In short, five bloggers and photographers including myself had to take seven shots that depicted the beauty of the old area. A portrait of a smiling person, inspirational Deira and sunrise were my favorite categories.
The challenge was also in time- we had to wake up as early as 5 AM and were shooting til about 3 PM and all the shots had to be submitted by 4 PM sharp. I chose to use a smaller camera with WIFI feature so that I would have enough time to edit on the go.
Deira is a familiar area to me as I used to live in Burdubai for about three years and user to cross the creek by abra quite often. The coming home feeling made me look at familiar streets, shops and old buildings with the eyes full of love and excitement.
Once all shots were captured, I spent quite a bit of time choosing my favorite shot. It was no easy task- I had more than three shots I liked for one category and not one really strong shot for another one.
Tough decisions had to be made and I was quite happy with the end results. In the end, I was there for the adventure and not just the prize and was ready to accept the decision of the judges panel.
At the Art night which took place at Azure lounge by the poolside we were greated by the general manager Mr Nishan Silva who shared the inspiration behind the shot hunt. My hubby and a good friend came to support me and we were excited to hear the results.
I was overwhelmed with the excitement, hoping my shots would gain appreciation they deserve. I did not get the first place but became the runner up which was still good, since I was competing against four talented photographers. My prize is a one night stay at Pullman and a 500 aed gift card to be spent at Deira City Centre which i will give to Mom on her next trip to Dubai.
What a great night to finish our photo challenge! Thanks to Pullman DCC for bringing us together and making such a great Art Night!
Stay tuned for more adventures,
